SΦS Helps the Children's Guild for Martin Luther King Day of Service
More than 2,000 volunteers from the District of Columbia, Maryland and northern Virginia fanned out across the DMV on behalf of HandsOn Greater DC Cares’ celebration of the Martin Luther King Day of Service. The organization organized volunteer efforts at 35 sites. One of the sites, The Children’s Guild-Monarch Academy in Hyattsville, MD, had more than 50 volunteers from various groups which included the DC Metro Graduate Chapter of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship, Inc.® Volunteers painted several rooms at the school. “It was a great opportunity to give back to our local community, as well as working side by side with volunteers from diverse cultures," said Sharon Chandler, National President of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship, Inc.® The Children’s Guild is based in Baltimore, MD but also operates the day school in Prince George's County. Its mission is to teach children the values and life skills necessary for a successful life. The Children's Guild serves 100-150 students annually in the DC/MD area. Some have autism. Others have multiple disabilities. |
